Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer!

Looking for something to do that is meaningful, fun, outdoors and good for the planet?

Think about Volunteering at Aquarena.

We are a self supporting Nature Center whose mission is to: Promote the protection and preservation of the San Marcos Springs and other ecosystems; and foster an appreciation and stewardship of natural and cultural resources for the benefit of the citizens of Texas and the many constituencies we serve.

 Aquarena Center Cleanup Programs

The unique and critical habitat of Spring Lake requires a carefully managed habitat conservation program.  The San Marcos River Foundation works with Aquarena to provide regular water hyacinth removal the last Saturday of every month.  Volunteers meet at the Wetlands nursery at 8 AM and work until about noon.  For more information contact: SMRF
Underwater Gardner

Diving For Science

Aquarena's volunteer Diving for Science program offers opportunities for certified scuba divers to assist with habitat preservation and conservation underwater.  The Diving for Science program is designed to protect the abundant natural, historical and cultural resources found in Spring lake.  Volunteers must complete a two day authorization course that is offered on weekends.  Once completed individuals are allowed access to Spring Lake to help with research, underwater gardening and other projects overseen by Aquarena.  To enroll in the Diving for Science authorization class contact: Eric Peterson

Educational Tours

For individuals who like children or have a background in teaching or scouting programs Aquarena offers opportunities to teach about the importance of water in everyone's life.  Spring time is our peak school field trip season.  Contact: Sonja Mlenar for information about helping with tours.
