(continued from page 1) Attributable to his perseverance, devotion, and enthusiasm, John Duggan is the chief scuba instructor for the “Center for Intrepid Wounded Warrior Sports Project,” performing his open water certifications here at Aquarena. The Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project is a partnership between Disabled Sports USA and the Wounded Warrior Project.
Disabled Sports USA was founded in 1967 by disabled Vietnam veterans. Disabled Sports USA (DS/USA) provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to restore their lives through sports, recreation, and educational programs, serving tens of thousands of youths and adults annually.
The Wounded Warrior Project ( W W P ) is a non - profit organization, designed to assist men and women of the United States armed forces who have been severely injured in the war(s) on terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other “hot spots” around the world.
The traumatic alteration(s) in physical character and capability, make military service members susceptible to severe and painful psychological, emotional, and physical torment and suffering, severely impacting them and their families. The WWP provides year round active sports programs, providing a foundation for the development of a positive self-image and outlook on life, ultimately leading to successful rehabilitation, employment, and a productive life.
The combined efforts of the Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project, Aquarena, and John Duggan, not only facilitate and provide a place for these heroes to dive, but the experience of meeting such a wonderful group of people, is priceless.
